Lake Bob Sandlin is an East Texas gem located south of Interstate 30 near Mount Pleasant, and close to the city of Pittsburg, TX.

Lake Bob Sandlin is only a two-hour-15-minute drive from the city of Dallas, TX which makes it a perfect spring break getaway for anyone from the Dallas area. You're close enough for a quick road trip, but far enough from home for a refreshing change of scenery. 

There are plenty of things to do on Lake Bob Sandlin, including a multi-use park. The park is usually open all year round with the peak season between March and October. Lake Bob Sandlin and its State Park provide a wide range of fun things for solo visitors, couples, and families.

Here are just a few good suggestions of what to do on your lake Bob Sandlin spring break vacation.

Fishing

Lake Bob Sandlin State Park is best known for its excellent fishing. Locals and visitors can simply fish from the shore, from a lighted pier, or take a boat and fish on the lake.

The park has a stocked pond and a fish cleaning station too. To make things even easier, you don't need a fishing license to fish from the shore or from the pier.

However, you will need a license if you are fishing by boat. You can also rent or buy fishing poles from the park’s store.

There are plenty of fish varieties to catch at the lake including crappy, catfish, and largemouth bass. You can also hire a fishing guide to show you around.

Campsite and Vacation Rentals

Lake Bob Sandlin State Park has 75 campsites charging $18 per night. There are other primitive campsites available at $10 per night.

The campsites provide perfect lake views and access to wooded sites. If you require more comfortable accommodation, there are cabins and vacation rentals conveniently located close to the lake.

Hiking and Mountain Biking

Lake Bob Sandlin State Park provides several hiking and mountain biking trails for visitors who want to experience the great outdoors in the refreshing spring air.

You can choose to tackle the 1.6-mile Dogwood Trail, the six-mile Lakeview loop, or the 4-mile Homestead Trail. All the trails provide scenic views of the lake and an exciting trek in wooded areas.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 27)

FAIR. Water stained; 63 degrees; 0.43 feet above pool. Crappie are fair scattered in 2-20 feet of water biting minnows or jigs. Catfish are good in 15-20 feet of water on baited holes with cheese bait. Sand bass are excellent under the Texas State Highway 21 bridge hitting white or chartreuse slabs or minnows. Bass are good in shallow water out to 12 feet of water using weightless skinny dippers, chatterbaits, and lipless crankbaits. Report by Mike Stroman, R & R Marine. Black bass are starting to spawn in the backs of creeks and coves with roving males in the shallows, streamers, and crawfish patterns are excellent for these fish. The top water bite will be improving as the weather warms, small poppers should be excellent. Look for crappie around brush and retaining walls shallow, small wooly buggers are excellent.
