A Special Guest at Deer Lake Cabins

We had a special guest here at Deer Lake Cabins and didn't even know it! Christopher M. Kelly stayed in the Sunshine Cabin on Deer Lake one weekend in June and much to our surprise it turns out he is a columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram! He wrote a wonderful article on Deer Lake Cabins and we are very excited to share this with you all! Please do take a moment and click on the link below. We have included a teaser from the article then a link to the article below. "So a return visit to Deer Lake Cabins will be necessary, and we've already identified where we'll be staying next time." "Late Sunday afternoon, just before we had to head back to Fort Worth, we took one last walk around the ranch to explore the other rental options. Honeymoon Hill is a one-bedroom log cabin located at the farthest northeastern edge of a property. A long wooden staircase off the back leads down to a pier overlooking its own private pond." "Make no mistake, we loved our more social Sunshine Cabin, surrounded on both sides by cheerful fellow vacationers who were happy to offer us beers from their cooler and hamburgers off their grill." "And hot as it was that weekend, there's nothing like a summertime vacation." "But when I imagine spending a few days at this completely secluded cabin in September or October - with the weather finally cooled, the chirping of crickets the only sound to be heard for miles - well, it might just be enough to convert me to the Texas ranch experience for life." Fishing Report from TPWD (May 14)

GOOD. Water stained; 74 degrees; 0.32 feet above pool. Crappie are good early morning on timber. Catfish are still shallow, finishing the spawn. White bass are schooling off of points and feeding on the surface in the mornings and evenings. Black bass are cruising in 10-15 feet in creek channels and around timber chasing shad. Report by Chris Caswell, Lake Bob Sandlin Crappie Fishing Guide. Black bass are shallow in creeks and shallow banks. Fly fishing with craws and clouser minnow patterns should produce bass. Crappie and catfish are moving shallow fly fishing with wooly buggers, slow-sinking small fish patterns, or clouser minnows on sunny rocky shores might draw a strike. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie are excellent in timber and coves in 10-20 feet of water with jigs out producing minnows. Report by River Bottom Boys Guide Service.
